Marcel Quimby

This month, Historic Preservation Architect Marcel Quimby brings us the story of the Bankhead Highway, and its path through Tarrant County. Built in the 1920s, the “Broadway of America” was the nation’s first all-weather transcontinental roadway. You’ve likely driven the Bankhead many times. Sections of Camp Bowie Blvd., E. Lancaster Ave., State Highway 180, and W. Vickery Blvd. were all part of the highway at one time. Quimby will explain the heyday of the Bankhead when it was lined with motels, restaurants, auto repair shops, and gas stations and will point out the landmarks you can still see along the route today.

*Bonus Booksigning* Our own George Bristol will be on hand signing copies of his latest book, Texas State Parks: The First 100 Years, 1923-2023. Bring your own or buy one on site!
